It has felt really affirming to watch young readers falling in love with Wendell the World's Worst Wizard. It has also been encouraging to see one class begin reading the book as a read aloud and then partnering with author classes and forming shared book discussions.
There are now fourteen classrooms, ranging from third through sixth grade, using this book as a read aloud. Teachers have created extension activities, such as maker kits, graphic novel scenes and Scratch games inspired by the novel.
Due to the popularity of the novel, we are currently working on a free Teacher Toolkit for teachers using the book as a read aloud. We will include writing prompts, lesson plans, discussion questions and extension activities that teachers can access for free. Look for the Teacher Toolkit to come out by the first of January.
